Stress is not welcome but a necessary part of life. Without stress there would be no sense of urgency or deadlines. That being said, coping with stress is a must. If you deal with stress on a regular basis managing it must follow right behind in order to stay healthy and happy. Relieving stress should focus on techniques that incorporate your mind and body as stress can manifest as depression or raging headaches.
Some activities that may help you relive stress include:
Writing. Writing is not only a creative outlet, it can be an outlet for feelings of all kinds. Just putting your feelings into words can help you sort through what you’re experiencing and clarify what you need to do or what your options may be. It often helps you get a clear picture of how things really are. You may feel overwhelmed even hopeless but writing about what you’re going through may help you see that things aren’t as bad as they seem.
Express Your Feelings. It may be a trusted friend, your spouse or a spiritual adviser but share your feelings with someone you can trust who can give you honest and supportive feedback. Just being able to share your burden with someone else can help you feel less stressed and more supported.
Do Something You Love. Whether it be gardening, reading a book, playing cards or exercising find some time to indulge a little. While it may not feel productive, reducing your stress level can actually help you to get more done when you’re trying to work or study. Balance is key when we deal with wearing multiple hats and have to shift our attention and energies each day.
Focus On Today. Stress often comes from worrying about the future. It may be money, a job or illness but focusing on what you can get done today and today only may help you put your stress and worry into context. You can’t control what will happen in the future and worrying doesn’t accomplish anything except creating an excessive burden.
Stress is unavoidable but coping with it is a must. Find what works best for you and put your stress in check.
